Legal requirements and verification in Delhi

Legal obligations depend on the activity, legal form, turnover, workforce and premises. These are useful starting points rather than a determination that any listed entity is compliant.

• Companies Act, 2013, section 2(20): defines a company as one incorporated under that Act or an earlier company law. Section 12 concerns registered offices and related disclosures. Verify registered companies through the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
• Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, section 22: sets out registration liability, subject to applicable thresholds and exceptions. Section 31 governs tax invoices for specified taxable supplies. Check GSTIN details at the GST Portal.
• Consumer Protection Act, 2019, section 2(7): defines a consumer, subject to statutory exclusions; section 2(11) defines deficiency in services; and section 2(47) defines unfair trade practice. Consumers can consult the National Consumer Helpline.
• Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954: governs specified employment conditions and establishment obligations in Delhi, where applicable. See the Delhi Labour Department for official guidance.
• Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006: provides the legal framework for MSMEs. Eligible enterprises may use the official Udyam Registration Portal. Registration is not proof of a dealer's product authorization.
