Educational qualifications
Indian Economic Service (IES)
A candidate was required to hold a postgraduate degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics or Econometrics from a recognized university or institution meeting the notification requirements.
Indian Statistical Service (ISS)
A candidate was required to have a bachelor's degree with Statistics, Mathematical Statistics or Applied Statistics as one of the subjects, or a master's degree in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics or Applied Statistics, subject to the precise requirements in the official notice. Merely studying statistics for a short period within a multidisciplinary degree may not satisfy the eligibility criteria.
Age limit and relaxation
For the 2024 examination, the general age range was 21 to 30 years as on 1 August 2024. Eligible candidates ordinarily had to be born between 2 August 1994 and 1 August 2003, both dates inclusive. Relaxations for reserved categories and other eligible applicants applied in accordance with the UPSC notification and applicable government rules.
